Interesting overall story, but terrifying and deeply upsetting to my 11 year old, who was expecting a sweet story with a little adventure, based on the cover and preview. She wants me to leave a zero star review.Spoiler, for parents - this is what my child found so disturbing:When the main character is a human child, their parents go off to fight vampires. When they return, they've become vampires. The child's mother, not long after promising the child she'll always be there for them and will never hurt them, bites the child to turn them into a vampire. Then, when the family are all vampires, the parents become mean to the child, and reject them.Parental betrayal, attack by a beloved mother suddenly turned into a creepy monster (accompanied by a terrifying image), and parental rejection are extremely disturbing ideas for children. This was very cute, funny, and exciting. I loved the art style, and enjoyed thinking about the lives of these vampires and witches. This book covered some serious topcs with maybe too much humor, and didn't really resolve or fully engage with issues it introduced that could be alarming and upsetting for the intended age group (particularly Drago's relationship with their birth family, and their low self esteem). But overall it was very good, and I hope it has sequels.
